A private offer from Kiawah Island Golf Resort (valid through May 26, 2013)
After hosting the PGA Championship last year, Kiawah Island’s Ocean Course is on more “must play” lists than ever.
If you’ve had your eye on playing (or replaying) this world-famous South Carolina course, here’s why you should do it now:
Kiawah is extending exclusively to GVI Readers a spring package that includes The Ocean Course and a complimentary upgrade into an Ocean View room at the Forbes Five-Star Sanctuary hotel.
Weather? I just checked. Risk of rain is very low and the average high temperatures are as follows:
March: 65° April: 72° May: 79°
I’d say these are close to perfect conditions for being “on the ocean.” “Read More” to see the price and details.

Notes on Kiawah Island Golf Resort:
With its world-class golf, abundant outdoor activities, and outstanding facilities (particularly tennis and spa), Kiawah truly is suitable for all kinds of visitors: buddies, families, couples, you name it. One thing that particularly stands out is the resort’s easygoing, relaxed vibe. For example, whereas some places warn you on the first tee about maintaining the pace of play and taking mulligans, at The Ocean Course, the starter may practically insist that your first shots of the day are good ones. The service in The Sanctuary hotel is equally friendly and professional. The well-trained staff is often quick to fulfill needs before you even have to ask.
Notes on The Ocean Course:
If you watched Rory McIlroy’s performance in the PGA Championship, you know it’s a tough, wind-swept course (it boasts the USGA’s maximum 155 slope rating). But unless you’re playing from one of the back sets of tees, finding the fairway from the tee box is relatively manageable on The Ocean Course. The real trick is finding the right spot for a good look into the greens. On hole after hole, a ton of sandy waste areas, cavernous bunkers, grassy dunes, a fair bit of water, and ever-changing sea breezes make for daunting approach shots.
Notes on The Sanctuary Hotel:
The four-story Sanctuary has the feel of a Southern estate and all the elegance you’d expect from a five-star hotel. Stunning windows at the back overlook the grounds and the ocean, and natural light bathes the traditional Southern décor, island-themed murals, and antique furniture and art throughout the building. The quality of the materials and craftsmanship are fantastic. All the details are just right, down to the creaking hardwood floors and staircases. The rooms, too — each with a spacious balcony — are wonderfully appointed with exceptionally comfortable beds outfitted with Italian linens. Bathrooms feature walk-in showers, deep soaking tubs, marble double vanities, and even views of the sea. The Sanctuary Spa (ranked by Travel + Leisure as one of America’s best) evokes the sense of a grand Southern porch and garden, and treatments are inspired by natural botanicals from the South Carolina Lowcountry.
