Take advantage of golf packages to ensure you never pay published golf rates at PGA National Resort & Spa.
This week, the PGA Tour is playing the Honda Classic on the Champion Course at PGA National Resort & Spa, but the course’s high profile doesn’t mean you have to pay the high rack rate on your Florida golf vacation.
In fact, the editors of Golf Odyssey say that savvy golfers never pay the rack rates for any of the five courses at PGA National Resort & Spa.
That’s because golf packages abound here (offered by the resort itself and third-party golf package companies) and because resort guests on golf packages only pay a surcharge to play the Champion Course, it usually works out in your favor to go the package route even if you’re only playing one round. (And if you’re only playing one round here, make sure it’s on the Champion Course).
In one extreme example, those willing to gamble on rainy weather last August and September were able to play the Champion Course for a mere $50 surcharge. The regular “rack” rate to play the course ranges from $185 to $350.
Given the quality of the course, its current status as a PGA Tour venue, and its storied past, including being the only course in Florida to host the Ryder Cup, “it’s hard to imagine a better deal on a Florida golf vacation,” said Golf Odyssey’s editors in a recent, in-depth review.
There are a number of firms now offering excellent rates on what’s called, “The Champion of Economic Relief Packages,” which includes golf and golf cart on the Champion Course; lodging; daily breakfast; free replay rounds on the resort’s Haig, Squire, or Estate courses; and practice range tokens. It appears the package begins in April. If interested, check out GolfPac Travel and Golf Zoo.
If you’re looking to combine playing and instruction (PGA National Resort & Spa is the world’s only facility that houses academies from noted swing guru David Leadbetter and short game specialist Dave Pelz, plus a Hot Stix custom club fitting center) Golf Odyssey’s editors discovered some unadvertised golf packages with amazing rates.
These are limited-time, limited-space offers, but you can find out what they are in the recently published March issue of Golf Odyssey. If you’re not already a subscriber, you can get access to it instantly simply by taking a free trial.

We have subscribed to Golf Odyssey for several years. We do not recall receiving a copy of Golf Odyssey’s recently released list of Platinum Places: The World’s Best Golf Destinations 2008-2009. Did our mailman/gal enjoy the publication so much they kept it or are we supposed to order or do something else in order to receive? Thanks!
Glad to have you as a subscriber! Platinum Places comes free with your subscription — the list is published in the December issue each year. I have already notified our customer service department to look into it and expedite a copy if you didn’t receive one.
Do you have additional info on PGA National ? Past issues ?
