Doral Golf Resort Unveils New Course for Florida Golf Vacations…Again

A new course to play on Florida golf vacations: the Jim McLean Signature Course at Doral Golf Resort (hole 13).

Miami, Florida’s Doral Golf Resort must think its “new” course is so nice,  they had to open it twice.

The Jim McLean Signature Course, which is a complete overhaul of what was the forgettable Silver Course, opened back in June.  But that didn’t stop Doral from having a “grand opening” two weeks ago.

The course is the first full design project for McLean, who is best known as a top golf instructor, and it opens with the  “Bermuda Triangle,” what the resort says is, “arguably the three toughest starting holes of golf in Florida.”

Mmm. I wonder if there’s a sign up form for McLean’s on-site golf school at the fourth tee.

Anyway, the editors of Golf Odyssey recently played the course as part of one of their trademark,  “secret shopper” inspections (they examined the entire resort) and I’ll tell you about some of their more interesting findings in an upcoming post.  In the meantime, enjoy these photos.

No doubt it’s a beautiful course, but methinks Photoshop may have played a role in enhancing these photos.

Don’t go there. Their staff steals from your room and management does nothing to back it up–had jewelry stolen when the maid service called in engineering. Scummy place. The main hotel is an old and moldy disgrace. The spa hotel is a step up but again–they steal your stuff!! Worth a day-trip to play the White or Blue–that’s about it. Bar food good. Restaurant–better a trip to TGIF.

Wow, your frustration is understandable, but let’s be fair: this was likely an isolated incident, no? It would be hard to stay in business for nearly 50 years if theft was commonplace. Now, for how they handled the situation, you may have a legitimate beef. By the way, we’ve got a tip coming up about one of the things you mentioned — something that could really make or break a trip to Doral. Stay tuned.
