Bethpage Black Golf Course might be the only muni that comes with a warning label.
Bethpage Black Golf Course, New York’s marvelous muni that hosted the US Open in 2002 and 2009, reopens today for the 2010 season…but with a whopping green fee increase.
Like other states across the USA, New York is struggling to balance its budget and increasing fees at parks (as well as proposing closures and service cutbacks) is one way it’s attempting to fill the gaps.
Still, if your travels take you to, or through, New York this golf season, you owe it to yourself to set up a tee time on the Black.
Normally, this can be as challenging as scoring a table at one of the Big Apple’s top restaurants, but here’s our step-by-step guide that shows exactly what to do and how much the rates have increased this season. Read more →

Make a point of playing the Atunyote golf course at the Turning Stone casino resort.
Despite the fanfare of the FedEx Cup, the PGA Tour season still includes more than a few official tournaments, and this week’s golf is being played at Verona, New York’s Turning Stone casino resort, which possibly has the best collection of 54 holes in the Northeastern United States.
As good as the resort’s Shenendoah and Kaluhyat layouts are (designed by Rick Smith and Robert Trent Jones, Jr., respectively), the best of Turning Stone’s golf courses, and the venue for the Turning Stone Resort Championship, is Tom Fazio’s Atunyote (pronounced uh-DUN-yote) course, based on the overall experience.
