Today, I thought I’d address a problem that we’ve all found ourselves in, whether it’s at a local course or one being played on a golf vacation: how to properly warm up when you’re running extremely late for a tee time.
Before you roll your eyes at what I admit isn’t a super sexy topic, think about this: what you do during those harried five minutes before you pull out your driver can determine whether that $50-$150 you just plunked down buys you fun and satisfaction or a long day of frustration.
When I’m running late (which seems to be all the time, no matter how early I leave my house or hotel room), I usually just do some creaky torso twists and a few arm circles, so I’m certainly not the expert on this…but Susan Hill is.
Susan is a professional golf fitness trainer who has worked with golfers of all skill levels, including tour players and collegiate teams. She has certifications from the National Academy of Sports Medicine, the International Sports Science Association, and the American Council on Exercise.
Her book, 101 Stretches for Golf, explains how increasing your range of motion can immediately improve your game, and it contains dozens of easy-to-do stretches that target specific areas of your body.
And to my earlier point about running late, it also explains, “the most effective dynamic warm-up routine you can use on the course to get the most out of every shot…and it only takes five minutes.”
So, if you’re like me and often find yourself with only a few minutes to warm up before teeing off, this book might do more to improve your scores than any club in your bag.
I should also mention that Susan stands behind her book, offering a full refund if you’re not delighted with it. To learn more, read her web page at 101 Stretches for Golf.
