Mission Hills CC is just one of ClubCorp

Our last tip about getting on private golf courses explained the concept of joining a private club network, whereby you pay a small membership fee to gain access to what can be hundreds of private golf courses.

Today, we’re going to tell you how you can play dozens of private golf courses without joining anything. Actually, we’re going to re-tell you, as this tip was first published around this time last year.

No, we’re not getting lazy. But as long as ClubCorp, the premier owner/operator of private golf courses, business, and sports clubs, continues to open its gates to the public each year for what it calls, “the largest one-day charity golf and dining event in the world,” we’re going to continue to tell you about it.

In fact, the ClubCorp Charity Classic (clubcorpcharityclassic.com) is even better this year; now there are 140 participating golf courses in 25 states compared to last year’s 94, including Ohio’s Firestone Country Club (which has hosted the PGA Championship several times); Mission Hills Country Club (home of the LPGA’s Kraft Nabisco Championship); and many others in golf vacation hotspots, such as Gainey Ranch Golf Club in Arizona, Indian Wells Country Club in California, The Golf Club at Indigo Run on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, and Las Colinas Country Club in the company’s home state of Texas.

This year’s event officially kicks off on September 26, but dates vary for the individual private golf courses, a list of which you can find on this signup page. Prices vary, too, and range from $75-$175, but that includes golf, dinner, and the good karma that comes from supporting worthy charities.

Indeed, an estimated $5 million is expected to be raised, the net proceeds of which will be divided and donated to the Muscular Dystrophy Association (50 percent); ClubCorp’s Employee Partners Care Foundation (25 percent); and the local or national charities chosen by each participating club (25 percent).

September 26 is quickly approaching, so take a minute now to check the list of participating clubs or you could miss out on your chance to play some excellent private courses.

Along the lines of this charity event, if you subscribe to PGA Tour Partners magazine, they have a series of “member” tournaments – all at TPC courses – some of which are private, such as Boston & Jasna Polana. Cheers!!
