Daufuskie's two courses, Melrose and Bloody Point, take advantage of the island's natual beauty.
If you really want to get away from it all on a Hilton Head golf vacation, make a reservation at the Daufuskie Island Resort & Breathe Spa on nearby Daufuskie Island.
This small land mass, which is only reachable by ferry (from Hilton Head and Savannah), doesn’t have all the modern conveniences of the mainland, but its sleepy pace and moss-draped trees instantly transport you back to a simpler time and make complete relaxation that much more attainable.
The resort’s charming accommodations are composed of a main inn and a wide variety of cottages and villas and activities include tennis, horseback riding and two superb golf courses.
The Nicklaus-designed Melrose Course (the better of the pair) is known for its strong Harbour Town-inspired finish along the coast. Bloody Point, a Weiskopf/Morrish parkland-style layout with plenty of ocean, marsh and river scenery of its own, is named for a famous battle between Indians and British that took place on island’s southernmost end.
If you go, remember to pack light because the ferry only permits two pieces of luggage per person and it would be a shame to visit this idyllic island without your golf clubs.
