Despite a change in location in 2003, Charlie’s L’Etoile Verte still offers the best upscale dining experience on a Hilton Head golf vacation. And though it’s name translates to “The Green Star,” we think it deserves gold.

Now located near the entrance to Shipyard Plantation, this cozy bistro has a friendly ambiance and serves unpretentious but inspired French country cuisine. In fact, the restaurant is a meticulous recreation of one in France that the chef and proprietor, simply known as Charlie, found while visiting there many years ago.
Each day’s selections are handwritten on a menu board based on the freshest available ingredients. The fish and seafood dishes are especially good, the wine list (a Wine Spectator magazine award winner) is outstanding and the service is engaging.
Before dinner, take some time to soak in the lively but relaxing bar area, where comfy chairs and pillow-lined bay windows set the tone for an utterly satisfying meal.
