The Arthur Hills Course is Palmetto Dunes' best.
Many people find themselves at the three-course Palmetto Dunes resort on their Hilton Head golf vacation, but insiders know the best course to play there is the Arthur Hills Course.
It’s a beautiful low-country layout that rolls over natural sand dunes as it passes through a system of lagoons. Anything but long — it’s only 6,651 yards from the back tees — this par-72 test captivates you with its unique elevation changes and challenging approaches to feature-filled greens.
The front nine is wonderful, but the back nine is superb, highlighted by the par-four 12th, a tough dogleg right with menacing water running up the right side and a lonely live oak haunting the landing area; and the par-four 17th, which demands a drive to the center of the bowed fairway to avoid the lagoon to the left and out-of-bounds to the right. The approach then wings over the lagoon to a sliver of a green hard by the water’s edge.
Palmetto Dunes’ Fazio Course may have longer holes, and its renovated Robert Trent Jones Course may have the fastest greens, but hole for hole, the Arthur Hills Course is the best.
