5 Great Reasons To Check Out Sea Pines Resort

You may have seen our piece a few weeks ago about what makes Hilton Head a great golf destination.

Since we wrote that piece, we have received tons of emails in response to that article from people looking to learn more about Hilton Head's best-known resort: Sea Pines.

Sea Pines is best known as the home to the world-class Harbour Town Golf Links, which hosts the PGA Tour's annual RBC Heritage. But there is so much more to the resort than that.

We like to give our readers what they want, so here are five reasons you need to check out Sea Pines Resort:

1. Fresh off a big renovation, Harbour Town Golf Links is back and better than ever.

Yes, I know I said that there's way more at Sea Pines than Harbour Town, but as long as this course - where Jack Nicklaus cut his teeth in golf course architecture alongside the great Pete Dye - exists, it will be the resort's biggest draw. And now, after a complete re-grassing and installation of a brand-new, state-of-the-art irrigation system, the course's immaculate conditions are a perfect compliment to its timeless design. Gazing down the length of the iconic par-4 18th, with Sea Pines' red-and-white striped lighthouse and Calibogue Sound in the background, will forever be one of the most memorable vistas in golf.

2. The course at Harbour Town is looking great, and so is its brand-new clubhouse.

In addition to new irrigation and new grass, Harbour Town is sporting a brand-new, 44,000-square-foot clubhouse, which includes a huge, well-stocked pro shop and Links, an American Grill. Space inside has also been dedicated to showcasing the rich history of the RBC Heritage, including photographs of past champions wearing the majestic tartan-patterned jacket.

3. Sea Pines is about to boast not one but three awesome courses.

Visiting golfers who focus solely on Harbour Town are robbing themselves of the chance to experience one of golf's great one-two punches. Heron Point, recently completely revamped by Pete Dye, is a true Lowcountry treat of a course, winding through beautiful forest. And in fall 2016, the totally-renovated Ocean Course will be back in the conversation. Davis Love III's design firm has taken on the challenge of breathing new life into Sea Pines' first course, and they are more than up to the task. Soon, Sea Pines will once again boast one of golf's greatest 54-hole spreads.

4. Off-course relaxation couldn't be more convenient or more enjoyable.

Harbour Town is a hub of activity at Sea Pines, to be sure, but it is far from the only gathering place at Sea Pines. Take for example the 23,000-square-foot Plantation Golf Club clubhouse, which primarily serves visitors to the Heron Point and Ocean Course layouts, and houses the excellent Live Oak Grill. It was named Golf, Inc.'s "New Clubhouse of the Year" for 2015. Also, the 25,000-square-foot Sea Pines Beach Club is the ideal place to relax and enjoy the majesty of the Atlantic Ocean. It is home to Sea Pines' most distinguished restaurant, Coast, which serves locally-sourced seafood, steaks and more in an oceanfront setting. And don't forget to have a drink at the Ocean Lounge.

5. There has never been a better time to stay at Sea Pines, especially since the opening of the nascent Inn & Club at Harbour Town, a 60-room boutique hotel that has received rave reviews in just a few months. Overlooking the first tee at Harbour Town Golf Links, it is the perfect place to stay if you're looking to immerse yourself in the golf scene at Sea Pines. And for families and larger groups, Sea Pines' rental pool of more than 300 villas and more than 100 single-family homes provides plenty of great accommodations options.
