The Tour no longer stops at TPC Myrtle Beach, but it's a vital visit during a Myrtle Beach golf vacation.

Located at the southern end of The Grand Strand in Murrells Inlet, S.C., you’ll find one of the top-10 Myrtle Beach golf courses you can play on a Myrtle Beach golf vacation.

The TPC Myrtle Beach might not technically be “where the Tour plays” anymore (it hasn’t hosted a Tour event since the then-named Senior PGA Tour Championship in 2000), but the Tom Fazio design hasn’t lost its luster and any golfer worth his wedge would be happy to play it. And, unlike most of the TPC courses that do host the pros, this one is open to the public.

Fazio, with consultation from current Champions Tour player and television broadcaster Lanny Wadkins, designed a somewhat shorter course by today’s standards (just shy of 7,000 yards) and compared to some other Myrtle Beach golf courses, but because it sprawls through marshy wetlands and thick vegetation, it demands thoughtful and accurate shotmaking and carries a hefty slope rating of 146 from the back tees.

The course opens strongly with a birdie-able, dogleg-left, par four and continues this challenging-but-fun theme throughout. And, because development has been kept to a minimum, there’s a decidedly secluded feel. It’s certainly not lost on the herons and wild turkeys that dart all over the course. Lest you get a craving for fowl, be advised that Murrells Inlet is famous for seafood; many restaurants offer daily specials that have been caught only hours earlier from the fishing boats docked nearby.
