here's another frugal vacation idea. book a golf trip in lake placid, ny from opening day to mid june (that's around may 1 - june 20 or so). the stay and play deals are basically giveaways. the 63 holes in the village are uncrowded. the only slight drawback is the effect of winter on the courses. there's usually some snow mold on these layouts early in the season. but they are very playable, offer great scenery of the adirondack mountains, excellent restaurants and pubs, and thriving nightlife. check out lakeplacidgolf.com.

direct air's service between plattsburgh, ny and myrtle beach has become pretty popular, especially with residents of southern quebec (not far from plattsburgh). it's just a 2 hour flight from there to MYR, so you might be able to fly and play on the same day. also, last i knew, there were no car parking charges in plattsburgh. only negative is that when you return to plattsburgh, you might have to dig your car out of the snow so leave a shovel and windshield sweeper in the car. that's small price to pay for a mid-winter vacation.

Yes, we know the Catskills and Atlantic City quite well. If you can give us some specifics about what you're looking for, we can likely provide some advice on where to play and stay. However, as part of our committment to honest, unbiased advice, we don't book or arrange travel.

Quick update. I am heading to Myrtle Beach in late February and I am taking a direct flight out of Detroit via Northwest Airlines. There is also a second company that has direct flights from airports such as Niagara Falls, NY. and various other locations throughout the U.S.Unfortunately I do not remember their name and they only perform flights direct to Myrtle Beach. The readers should have this information as well, the only drawback is that your plans need to be flexible as the flights seem to depart midweek only. Thought you should know.
