This Myrtle Beach golf vacation package includes golf school and golf on the scenic Pawleys Plantation course.

Like most golf websites, we get flooded with announcements about golf vacation packages from courses and resorts. Rather than just copy, paste, and post them, however, we actually take the time to do some research to determine which ones truly offer you significant values and which are just products of enthusiastic marketing managers.

Today, we’re happy to present a Myrtle Beach golf vacation package that makes the cut by a long shot. If you’re in the market for a Myrtle Beach golf vacation, and would like to combine it with top-notch instruction, you’ll want to pay particular attention to this one.

It’s called the “Best Ever Golf School Package,” and it’s being offered by Pawleys Plantation Golf & Country Club (pawleysplantation.com), located at the southern end of the 70-mile stretch of beach towns that make up greater Myrtle Beach or “the Grand Strand.”

This Myrtle Beach golf vacation package includes:

• Three nights lodging in a one-bedroom suite at Pawleys Plantation

• Two rounds of golf (with carts) on its Jack Nicklaus Signature course

• Three breakfasts

• Three days of golf instruction (3.5 hours per day) at the on-site Phil Ritson-Mel Sole golf school (ritson-sole.com).

By our math, the high season price for this Myrtle Beach golf vacation booked separately would be $1,413, including tax. The golf package price, also in high season and including tax (valid through May 18, 2009) is $999, based on double occupancy, a savings of $414.

Pawleys isn’t the best course to play on a Myrtle Beach golf vacation, but as we wrote in our essential guidebook, Planning the Ultimate Myrtle Beach Golf Vacation, “Pawleys Plantation plays long and tough, especially from the tips. The back nine is, at times, as scenically arresting as any spot in the low country.” (We also noted problems with bugs and course conditioning, but these may have been seasonal.) As for the Ritson-Sole golf school, Golf Magazine included it on its list of the top-25 in the USA.

You’d have a hard time finding a Myrtle Beach golf vacation package that includes this much quality golf, lodging, and instruction for less than $1,000 (yes, even in this economic climate). In our opinion, this Myrtle Beach golf vacation package is an excellent deal.

Thanks for the fair words about my home course in the south. Just arrived at Pawleys Plantation and am looking forward to playing tomorrow. Also, Pine Lakes International, the “Grandaddy” of all courses in Myrtle Beach and the alleged birthplace of Sports Illustrated, opens this week, after a two-year renovation. I’m going to check it out next week.

If you are going to be staying in or near Myrtle Beach I highly recommend checking out Zonder. They have a great selection of Myrtle Beach vacation rentals(http://www.zonder.com/Listings.aspx?loc=Myrtle+Beach,+FL)

I first visited the Ritson/Sole golf school the year it opened in l990 in Myrtle Beach. The next year it relocated to Pawley’s Plantation. Mel Sole, the operator and lead instructor, added 40 yds. to my driver carry (from 200 yds. to 240 yds.) during his 3 day (3.5 hrs. each day) golf school. I have attended the school several times since that first visit. Because I own a small golf and repair shop, many customers ask me about that experience. I have referred over 60 people to the school since 1992. Each of these golfers has been happy with their improvement and several going back for 2nd and 3rd trips. I highly recommend this golf school and feel that it is truly one of the great “values” in golf instruction. Mel Sole will make you feel like you’ve found a “long lost” friend, and improve your golf game beyond your wildest dreams. I promise. Sincerely, Ed Scharff
