The Highland Estates Resort is one of the better places to stay on a Mesquite golf vacation.
Many people ask us if we think it’s worth making the 80-mile drive from Las Vegas to play Mesquite golf courses. The answer is a resounding, “yes.” Several Mesquite golf courses are dramatic and unbelievably scenic. They offer unique layouts, challenging rounds, and should leave you plenty pleased with the value proposition they offer, especially when compared to many of the options on a Las Vegas golf vacation.
Unfortunately, we can’t say the same about the lodging options available for Mesquite golf vacations. On our last visit, we stayed in several Mesquite hotels, and we were disappointed by what we found.
To be fair, we should point out that the Eureka Hotel, the Oasis Resort Hotel, and the CasaBlanca Hotel & Casino are just minutes away from fine layouts like Wolf Creek Golf Course and their room rates are often less expensive than what you’ll find on the Las Vegas Strip. But that’s about where the perks end.
We found the room décor at these particular hotels to be stale and sparse, utterly without charm, and generally impersonal. Their casinos, in theory, are legitimate amenities, but compared to the pleasure palaces in Sin City, they just come off as cheesy.
Don’t get the wrong idea; these hotels aren’t anything like the Bates Motel, and they are completely adequate if you’re only interested in a Mesquite golf-a-thon, but compared to the level of golf here, they’re a bit of a letdown.
If we had to recommend one place to stay on a Mesquite golf vacation, we’d suggest the nearby Highland Estates Resort (highlandestatesresort.com). It fared a bit better during our stringent, anonymous inspections, but mainly because it offers one- and two-bedroom condominiums and golf packages that include a number of nearby Mesquite golf courses.
The moral of this story is that a Mesquite golf vacation is definitely worth taking, either on its own or as a side trip from a Las Vegas golf vacation. But keep in mind that you might not like the accommodations as much as the golf.
