Mesquite Golf Courses: Still Worth a Side Trip During a Las Vegas Golf Vacation?

Many of you have asked if I think it’s still worth taking the 90-mile side trip to play Mesquite golf courses given that the prices of Las Vegas golf vacations have been dropping considerably in recent months.

Well, my colleagues at Golf Odyssey recently returned from an undercover inspection of Mesquite golf courses and they just filed their comprehensive report in their May 2009 issue.

Here are some of their comments:

“Home to some of the most jaw-dropping, eye-popping golf courses this side of the moon…”

“On a given day, or for a couple of times during a getaway, there’s no more exhilarating place to play…”

“One of the nation’s top bargain golf venues.”

So, yes, I’m going to go out on a limb and say that it’s still worth the drive from Las Vegas to play Mesquite golf courses (and I think the following photos will back me up on this).

Of course, some layouts are better than others, and the Golf Odyssey guys say that one is still the true leader of the pack. They also say that if you choose to stay in Mesquite overnight, you’ll find that, other than gambling, the town is, “devoid of nightlife,” so you should bring a good book. Likewise, they say that the lodging options are not on par with the stunning courses, but there are some recommended places to stay.

I had the extreme pleasure of playing Wolf Creek last year and jaw dropping doesn’t seem enough to describe it! Seeing these pictures brings back the awesome memories but pictures alone don’t do this course justice! We just returned from another amazing trip to St. George(about 30-40 minutes east of Mesquite) and played the newest course there called Sand Hollow…this course rivals Wolf Creek in all it’s majestic scenery! A must play in your “Top courses to play in your lifetime” list! Can’t wait to go back…

Mesquite is a very good golf outing and Wolf Creek is the crown Jewel. Beautiful, but TOUGH.

Agreed about Sand Hollow. Golf Odyssey’s review of this new resort is also in the May 2009 issue.

Went with a group of 16-stayed in 3 b/r condo’s played 5 rounds, Falcon Ridge in Mesquite , well worth the time. Also played both Palmer and Canyon courses at Oasis G.C. Played two in Utah, 40 minute ride Coral Canyon and The Ledges. Overall very good time. We found places to eat and drink every day. Our cost for 3 b/r condo, golf with a cart for 5 rounds (we take a day off midweek) was just over $800.00 .Flew into Las Vegas ,rented vans and not a bad 75 min. all highway ride.
