We’re normally pretty serious with our posts, but given everything flying around with regard to Tiger Woods and Crashgate, I thought today might be good for a little levity.
I don’t know about you, but given the addition of golf to the 2016 Olympics, I certainly was surprised by the selection of Rio as the host city. I know it’s just one small factor, but given Chicago’s clear advantage over Rio de Janeiro with respect to championship golf venues, I’ve been wondering just how the latter city was able to secure it’s Olympic bid. Last I checked, there isn’t even a single course in the entire world top-100 that’s located in South America. Chicago has a handful. So, I did a little research.
I thought I had my answer when a sports business magazine sent me a press release touting its revealing article about, “How Rio Won the 2016 Olympic Games.” It was written by “a senior strategy advisor to the Rio bid,” and it “outlines the ten-point plan he developed with the Brazilian bid team.” While this indeed seemed plausible, it wasn’t until I received the following from my father-in-law that I knew I had the real inside story.
As you can see, he discovered a much simpler theory on why Rio won the 2016 Olympic Games. It still involves 10 points, but it has more to do with a rating scale than a plan.

I think you can see where this is going. More (and racier) Rio vs. Chicago comparisons can be found here.
And if you happen to be interested in the real, ten-point plan, you can find out more about that here.

Thanks, Bill. We look forward to sharing more of our usual tips with you.
I get it! Rio hot! Chicago cold! Who in the heck wants to go to Chicago instead of Rio? Whats to see in Chicago that looks good? Rio, everything and especially the ladies at the beach. Thanks, Merrill.
Rio won because it is the most beautiful city in the world. But I support Chicago 2024. Why not?
