Hilton's improved Cancun resort will not disappoint.

Anyone who has been to Cancun for a Mexico golf vacation has surely seen the Hilton Cancun Golf & Spa Resort. Located on the main road in the area known as the Hotel Zone, it’s the one that looks like a towering, Mayan temple.

In the past, viewing this impressive façade was about all we could recommend for those taking a Mexico golf vacation because, frankly, the property was a Hilton in name only. Following recent and extensive renovations, however, the hotel now more than measures up to the better Hilton hotels around the world.

As Golf Odyssey found on a recent stay, the Hilton Cancun Golf & Spa Resort has just what you want for a Mexico golf vacation: bright, clean rooms with great views of the sea; a wonderful pool complex; a wide, soft-white sandy beach; a modern fitness center and spa; fine, friendly service; and a convenient location.

The golf course here isn’t championship caliber, but it is much improved following renovations of its own to the tune of $6 million. The grass on the greens, tees, fairways, and in the rough is now salt-tolerant paspalum and, therefore, should be green no matter what month you take your Mexico golf vacation. A new irrigation system has also been installed.

The course’s design is decidedly player friendly, but keep an eye out for crocodiles around the ponds and lagoons. They’re plentiful, and the larger ones could really ruin your round if you were to get too close. While the Hilton Cancun course is not as complicated a design nor as meticulously manicured as some of the newer courses in the region, it provides a most convenient golf fix for anyone staying in or passing through Cancun on a Mexico golf vacation.

Played the Hilton Course on January 20, 2009 and loved it!The staff was very friendly and professional. I had a twight tee time, but the course was not crowded that day so the starter sent me off 30 minutes early. The fairways and greens were in great condition and taking pictures of the crocs that are all over the front 9 was an added plus! This is a user friendly course, tough enough to challenge the average golfer, but a fun layout!
