If you want to play the next big thing on your Palm Springs golf vacation before it gets mobbed by the masses, play the Arnold Palmer-designed course at SilverRock Resort in La Quinta, Calif.
Just like Charley Hoffman, the formerly unknown rookie PGA Tour player who won the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic yesterday, SilverRock will soon be discovered when word spreads that this city-owned, public course will be a regular part of the tournament hosting rotation starting in 2008.
The course, which is surrounded by picturesque mountains and dotted with tranquil lakes, was supposed to begin co-hosting the tournament this year, but it was twice rejected by the PGA Tour for what it recently downplayed as mostly logistical issues in transporting people around the course.
All is well now, and the course, which will eventually anchor a full-scale resort complex with multiple hotels and spas, is likely to get a boost on the buzz-o-meter with its recent appointment, so play it on your Palm Springs golf vacation while its still fairly easy to get a tee time.
