Youve probably heard that Tiger Woods is getting into the golf course design business. It was widely known that he was toying with the idea for some time, but the official announcement was made on November 6, 2006.
While theres still no word on when or where Tiger will design his first course, a recently approved luxury golf resort project hes financing, along with Ernie Els and British billionaire Joseph Lewis, will likely get him one step closer and provide invaluable experience about the design/building process.
The project is called the Albany Golf & Beach Club, and it will be a private residential development located on New Providence Island, on the opposite end from the Bahamas capital, Nassau. In addition to upscale homes, condos and a marina, it will include an 18-hole golf course, designed by Els, with likely input from Woods.
The main financier, Lewis, manages The Tavistock Group, a private investment firm with interests in real estate developments (including Isleworth and Lake Nona in Florida where Woods and Els live, respectively), restaurants, sporting events and teams, life sciences, manufacturing and financial services.
The Albany Golf & Beach Club is projected to open in the fall of 2008.
