In our previous tip about golf bag shipping , we explained the various options and costs involved in shipping golf clubs instead of traveling with them.
Despite the convenience and relative low cost of golf club shipping (especially if you plan ahead), we know some of you simply prefer the idea that your golf clubs are traveling on same airplane, at the same time, that you are.
Well, for those that aren't yet sold on golf club shipping, there's a website that will prove extremely useful. Golftravelguide.com, out of the Netherlands, has compiled a list of the rules, regulations, limitations, and prices (if any) you'll encounter when flying with your golf travel case on nearly any airline in the world.
From the Golftravelguide.com homepage, just click on the left-hand button (with the picture of the airplane) that says "Golf Bag Policy." Then, select the airline you're interested in, from Ireland's Aer Lingus all the way down the alphabet to a Polish airline called WizzAir. (Insert your own off-color joke here.)
In addition to an at-a-glance interpretation of that airline's golf bag policies and fees, there's a direct link to the airline's official baggage policy. While we can't vouch for how often the information is updated, when we spot-checked a few of the site's listings and compared them to what was published on airlines' own websites, Golftravelguide.com was impressively up-to-date.
Still, we'd recommend using Golftravelguide.com as exactly that a guide. It's great for comparing a lot of airlines' policies at once, but to be absolutely sure, you have to go to the source.
One final note: because the website is based in the Netherlands, prices are listed in Euros and weight is listed in kilograms. Here are two handy websites for converting them into other currencies and units of measure.
