Where a Personal Butler Comes with Your Room on a Cabo San Lucas, Mexico Golf Vacation

By Craig Better |

Palmilla's butlers will bring you breakfast in
bed, even if it's on the beach.

It's no secret that One&Only Palmilla in Cabo San Lucas is one of the best places to stay on a Mexico golf vacation. But few people know that certain rooms at this posh paradise include the use of a personal butler for the duration of one's stay.

The original rooms at Palmilla were renovated not that long ago and still maintain their historic charm and Mexican furnishings. The new, pricier wing, however, is the place to stay on your Mexico golf vacation if you're going "all out." In addition to offering more modern and luxurious rooms, with huge bathrooms, balconies and flat-screen TVs everywhere, bookings in the new wing come with your own personal valet.

Butlers have been a trend in the high-end hospitality business over the last few years, and we at Golf Odyssey have had the pleasure of working with our fair share, but, to be honest, they are usually nothing more than glorified room service attendants.

Not so at Palmilla. We were given a cell phone with our butler's number on speed dial and he was at our beck and call throughout our stay. He even slept in a little cabin near our room. He was always waiting outside our door with a golf cart to shuttle us anywhere we wanted to go and he literally took care of everything: from arranging and re-arranging tee times and spa appointments to setting up a fishing excursion, including transportation, and accompanied us to the docks in Cabo San Lucas (25-minutes away) to make sure all negotiations were handled properly.

Upon our return, he took our yellowfin catch to the chef to be made into tuna tartare. Once, after casually mentioning that we preferred dark beer over the resort's ubiquitous Corona, we returned to our room to find the mini-bar had been restocked.

That is the kind of phenomenal service that makes the new rooms at Palmilla worth every penny. So, if you're looking to splurge, definitely ask for a butler. Only don't call him Jeeves. This was a Mexico golf vacation after all, and our new best friend's name was Jose.
