A Handy Guide to Help You Plan Your Ireland Golf Vacation

By Craig Better |

To find upscale, intimate accommodations, such as
Moy House, for your Ireland golf vacation,
check out Ireland's Blue Book.

One of the joys of taking an Ireland golf vacation is experiencing the warmth and hospitality for which the Irish are famous. And, one of the best ways to ensure you experience it is to stay in one of the country’s historic hotels, castles, small inns, and guesthouses rather than a large, generic hotel.

Of course, the choices are many, the quality varies wildly, and it’s hard to know exactly what you’ll be getting for your Ireland golf vacation just by looking at a website. To aid in the selection process, we recommend requesting a free copy of Ireland’s Blue Book, a comprehensive guide published by a group of Ireland’s better “independent” innkeepers.

When we first picked up a copy on Golf Odyssey’s Ireland trip this past fall, we were understandably skeptical. But a brief scan through its 40 pages revealed many of our favorite, secret spots, such as Moy House, Glin Castle, and King Sitric restaurant (the guide also includes a few noteworthy dining spots) and, more importantly, the absence of any establishments we know to be of poor quality.

Each lodging listing includes a short description of the accommodations, a few interior and exterior photographs, contact information (including website and email addresses), the names of the proprietors and/or managers, prices, policies and its position on an Ireland map. There’s also a more detailed driving map of Ireland in the back of the book that shows where the properties are in relation to one another. Unfortunately, it does not show which golf courses are nearby, but there’s a Ireland golf course map on the website.

If you’re interested in experiencing as much Ireland as you can on your Ireland golf vacation, take a minute to request this handy guide; it’s a great way to simplify the planning process.
