How to Get On Private Naples Golf Courses on a Florida Golf Vacation

By Craig Better |

The Marco Beach Ocean Resort can provide
access to several private Naples golf courses.

Want to play private Naples golf courses on your next Florida golf vacation? Staying at the right hotel or inn could be your "in."

Take, for example, the all-suite Marco Beach Ocean Resort, which offers one-bedroom suites starting at $209 per night. With a room key here and a pleasant rapport with the concierge, it's possible to get on at least three private Naples golf courses (although things might tighten up in high season).

One is the highly acclaimed Creek Course at the Golf Club at Fiddler's Creek. This Arthur Hills layout is usually reserved for members and their guests only, but the club gives special consideration to Marco Beach Ocean Resort guests. Hopefully, the arrangement will extend to Fiddler's second course, a Hurdzan/Fry design called Preserve currently under construction.

The Marco Beach Ocean Resort may also be your ticket to the Peter Jacobsen/Jim Hardy-designed course at the private Hammock Bay Golf & Country Club. The course claims to have the highest elevation of all Naples golf courses, but what you'll really remember is the natural beauty of its marsh and mangrove environment.

A third option is The Rookery, located at Marriott's Marco Island Resort. This, too, is a "resort private" course, but one with which the Marco Beach Ocean Resort has a good relationship. As we told you in this post, the course was redesigned in 2004 by Bob Cupp and recently received a new clubhouse as part of an overall $187 million resort renovation.

The Marco Beach Ocean Resort doesn't advertise a specific relationship with these private Naples golf courses, but even if it did — and this is a good rule of thumb when staying at any high-end resort — it's always a good idea to chat up the concierge and inquire about other courses you'd like to play. Sometimes, a hotel has access to tee times that are just too limited to make public.
