As you might imagine, a town built solely on the manufacturing and sale of bathroom fixtures is, well, a bit different. For years, one of the only off-course activities on an American Club Kohler golf vacation was taking a three-hour tour of the Kohler factory to learn more than you’d ever want to know about how toilets and bathtubs are made.

The tour still exists, as do dioramas displaying the latest kitchen and bathroom accessories (if you’re into that sort of thing) but now there are a variety of indoor and outdoor activities that greatly enhance an American Club Kohler golf vacation.

One of the best is indulging in the posh Kohler Waters Spa, known for its relaxation pool, cascading waterfall and signature water treatments. Another is River Wildlife, a private, 500-acre retreat open to American Club guests (with the purchase of a daily pass) offering horseback riding, canoeing, hiking, trap-shooting, fishing and hunting.

Family travelers may want to consider visiting the city of Sheboygan, a Great Lakes port with a nice marina, charter fishing boats, arts and performing arts centers, semi-pro baseball team, and children’s museum. The trip takes just 10 minutes but there are enough activities to fill those bittersweet non-golf days.
