Shipping your golf clubs is clearly going to have the biggest impact on your ability to travel light, but some avid travelers I've met have other secrets that take things to a whole new level.
For instance, I used to think I was pretty clever using travel-size toiletries, but apparently even they have "unnecessary" space and weight (not to mention the the risk of leakage).
That's why some of these "traveling light" fanatics tell me they often use paper toiletries.
Not toilet paper. Paper toiletries. As in, shampoo, shaving cream, soap and even laundry detergent made out of thin sheets of paper.
You just add water, rub the sheets between your hands and they dissolve into foamy suds and lather. They smell quite nice, too.
Toothpaste? They've got that covered as well.
It's not paper, but chewable tablets. Apparently, one tablet is more than enough per brushing, so you can simply take what you need and leave the "unnecessarily large" bottle at home.
As for the paper toiletries, the packaging is slim, lightweight, carry-on compliant...and won't make a mess no matter how hard the baggage handlers slam your Samsonite.

Looks as if the toothpaste tablet bottle would take up same space/weight as small tube of paste. For shaving, I carry a shaving brush and use bar soap to create lather. Most hotels provide shampoo & conditioner. If I do carry liquid products, I protect rest of luggage by placing them in a sealable plastic bag. One more thing, since I have to take my clubs as checked baggage, I place my shaving kit with its toothpaste and any other liquid products (which are in the plastic bag which is in the shaving kit) in the golf bag or the golf travel bag. No need to pull out that stuff for the TSA show & tell. Much simpler than finding and buying all these paper toiletries
After broken bottles and punctured toothpaste tubes many years ago I realized everywhere I traveled also sold soap toothpaste and shampoo and invariably the place I was staying provided it. So if you have to buy it anyway why not at your destination.
Clubs are another problem traveling to Europe I am about ready to buy a set and leave them there with friends.
