The World's Golfiest Off-Course Experiences #17:

If you feel a deep connection to golf, you're likely familiar with -- and have probably played -- some of the game's golf course shrines.

But you can also have some incredibly meaningful experiences in your travels without setting foot on a golf course.

Take, for example, visiting the grave of Bobby Jones, which many Masters participants will do this week before they tee off at Augusta National.

The next time you're in downtown Atlanta, take the five-minute ride to Oakland Cemetery.

There, you'll find the gravesite of the late, great Robert Tyre "Bobby" Jones.

You can pay your respects and tee up or place a golf ball beside his headstone for good luck.

Then, across the street and overlooking the cemetery is Six Feet Under Pub & Fish House, where you can ponder the man's grand slam, his founding of Augusta National and the Masters, and his overall contribution to the game...all while enjoying some incredibly good fish stew.

Some might call it corny, but I think it's one of the golfiest off-course experiences in the word.

What are the coolest or most meaningful off-course experiences you've had?

when in St Andrews, visit the graves of Old and Young Tom Morris. Also, though my group couldn't find the time there is a nine-hole course nearby where you play with hickory sticks and old-style balls. Comes with a shot of scotch to start, and is on my must-do list for the next trip over…

(old course was sweet, by the way. Carded an 80 and my buddy was on his way to a even par until the Road Hole bit him…stumbled in for a 78)

While I am not playing in the Master's anytime soon, as an Atlanta native I can vouch for the deliciousness of Six Feet Under. Great beer choices (not huge but quality) and solid pub food with an accent on seafood, including oysters make it a fantastic choice for a spring or summer day in Atlanta.

World Golf Hall of Fame should be on here, too. They have golf there, too, but I thought the museum (off-course) was the best part.

If visiting the homes of dead golfers is on your to do list, stop by the home of Old Tom Morris located at 6 The Links, in St. Andrews Scotland. There's not much to see but it does make for a cool photo. Further north in Dornock you can visit the birthplace of one of the world's great golf course architects, Donald Ross. The house still stands at #5 St Gilbert Street, Dornock, Scotland. There's a nice plaque and some facts about Ross. Again, though, not much more.

Here's a great one: taking part in the tradition of sitting down to a massive lunch feast between 18-hole rounds at Murifield in Scotland -- unforgettable!
