Today’s tip is a formal follow up to the one we published a few months ago called, “20 Places Where You Can Take Unlimited Golf Vacations.”

I say “formal,” because a few more unlimited golf vacations were added to the previous tip in the form of comments (bringing the total number to 23), but this one can potentially be so good, I thought it deserved its own space.

San Francisco’s celebrated Half Moon Bay Golf Links and the Ritz Carlton Half Moon Bay are offering an unlimited golf package through December 30, 2009.

Together with a comfy room at the Ritz Carlton, this package includes unlimited golf from 2 pm on the day you arrive through 7 pm on the day you depart on both of Half Moon Bay Golf Links’ worthy courses: the Old Course, designed by Arnold Palmer/Francis Duane (redesigned in 1999 by Arthur Hills) and the Ocean Course, an Arthur Hills design that the editors of Golf Odyssey say makes better use of the jaw-dropping coastal scenery.

(If you’re not already a Golf Odyssey subscriber, you can access the editors’ complete, candid reviews of both courses, the hotel and its restaurants by taking a limited-time free trial here.)

Weekend rates for this package start at $469 per night for one person and $599 per night for two (12.5 percent tax not included).

Not cheap by any stretch, but regular weekend room rates at the Ritz Carlton Half Moon Bay can easily run $350 per night and green fees for both courses are $185 (note: 30-60 percent discounts on golf only are regularly made available to those who join Half Moon Bay Golf Links’ “e-club” at halfmoonbaygolf.com).

Clearly, if you play more than 18 holes per day on this golf package, you’ll be well ahead of the game — by at least $250-$500 per day by my math. And this is before all the extra goodies that are included, such as overnight valet parking (normally $45 per day); resort fee (normally $25 per day); Wi-Fi access (normally $10 per day), and access to some of the Ritz Carlton Half Moon Bay’s spa and fitness facilities.

If you want to take full advantage of this unlimited golf package (complete details at ritzcarlton.com/hmb; 650-712-2228), keep in mind that the warmest weather and least precipitation for the San Francisco area typically occurs between June and September, and the sun doesn’t set until 7:30-8:30 pm.
