Golf Odyssey is the unique, impressive, and affordable gift choice.

Golf Odyssey is the unique, impressive, and affordable gift choice.

Right now, you’re probably thinking that today’s tip isn’t a tip at all, but a self-serving promotional message.

You know what? You’re right.

Well, you’re partly right.

Yes, part of my job is to raise awareness about our premium, newsletter, Golf Odyssey.

But to be perfectly honest, here’s why I would recommend it as a great holiday gift even if I didn’t work closely with its editors.

In my 15 years covering golf (travel, equipment, accessories, and apparel) I’ve seen tons of gift ideas, but very few that are as appreciated by recipients, or make as good an impression, as Golf Odyssey does.

So, why don’t I think it’s the best gift you could give the golfers on your holiday shopping list?

Well, in my opinion, that would be to send them on a golf vacation.

If you’re in a position to do that, more power to you (and please note my birthday is coming up on January 25).

After that, the best gift for those who travel and play golf is Golf Odyssey, and I say that unequivocally and without hesitation.

Here are five quick reasons to back up that statement:

First, the person who you give Golf Odyssey to will immediately enjoy the feeling of being one of the savviest golfers on the planet – an insider who knows the truth about the best places to play, stay, and dine…and the over-hyped traps to avoid.

This, of course, is because Golf Odyssey’s editors conduct “secret shopper” inspections and they don’t sugar-coat their reviews. They’ve been doing it this way for 18 years.

Second, your gift recipient will regularly get access to top private courses in the USA and around the world.

I’m not kidding.

In the last few months alone, Golf Odyssey subscribers were invited to play two, top-100 caliber courses (at strictly private clubs) by two of the game’s greatest architects, Tom Fazio and Tom Doak.

Third, your gift recipient will get access to unique golf trips and packages, many of which are available to subscribers only…at special, subscriber-only prices.

Just this month, Golf Odyssey readers were tipped off about a trip to Oregon’s famous Bandon Dunes Resort to play its new Old MacDonald course….before it officially opens and with a meet-n-greet with the resort owner and one of the course architects.

Fourth, subscribers get 24-7 access to Golf Odyssey’s password-protected online archive, the largest collection of unbiased golf course, resort, and restaurant reviews in the world. It’s the ultimate tool for researching golf vacations.

Fifth, if they need specific answers or recommendations not found in the archive, your gift recipient will have direct access to Golf Odyssey’s editors. This concierge-level service is one of the most popular subscriber benefits.

All this being said, I wouldn’t recommend giving Golf Odyssey to just anyone.

If the golfers on your holiday shopping list are only interested in bargain-basement golf, the advice, opportunities, and singular experiences that Golf Odyssey facilitates will probably be lost on them.

On the other hand, if you have a friend or relative who would appreciate candid reviews, private course access, and once-in-a-lifetime travel opportunities, or frankly, if there’s someone you’d like to impress, such as a boss or client, Golf Odyssey truly is the perfect (and affordable) golf gift.

To that latter point, one other thing to remember is (sorry for the upcoming cliché), Golf Odyssey is the gift that keeps giving all year long.

Your gift recipient will receive a new Golf Odyssey issue each month for an entire year, and when they do, they’ll be reminded of you, your thoughtfulness, and your good taste.

Golf Odyssey can be given as a gift in print or electronic versions and ordering is easy.

issue with bowJust visit the Golf Odyssey store, add the preferred version to your shopping cart, and click “checkout.”

You’ll then be able to check the box that asks, “Is This a Gift?,” enter your recipient’s delivery information, and, of course, your personal gift message.

And speaking of messages, my final one to you today is…

Happy Holidays! Here’s to a great new year of golf vacations.
