The Aston Martin of Golf Bags (product spotlight)

mackenzie-walker-golf-bagHave you ever wondered what golf bag the elite golfers of the world choose to carry?

You’re about to find out.

Of course, if you’ve had the pleasure of playing Pine Valley (yes, that Pine Valley), you have certainly seen the members carrying it.

You may have spotted it at Oakmont, Seminole, National Golf Links, and Maidstone, too.

And these are the clubs I’m allowed to mention. There are others that would blow your mind.

It’s called the MacKenzie Walker, and I’m going to tell you exactly why these golf bags have achieved such a cult following and how you can own one for a special, discounted price available only to Golf Vacation Insider readers.

“Quite simply the most brilliant bag I have ever seen…something that I will cherish for years to come.” – Darren (Australia)

“Love the bag! Probably in the top 3 greatest purchases ever.” – Chad (Washington)

If you’ve already heard of MacKenzie Walker golf bags, I’m impressed.

As I mentioned above, they’re typically found only at the most exclusive and prestigious golf clubs in the world.

Many PGA Tour pros own MacKenzie Walkers, too, as do famous golf course architects. And, someone recently gave one to golf-crazy Deutsche Bank CEO Seth Waugh as a gift.

Why do the world’s most avid, in-the-know golfers – many of whom can buy any bag they want – insist upon this bag?

One reason is its elegant simplicity, which honors the roots of the game and rekindles the joy we felt when we first started playing it.

Plus, in a world where branding has become a shouting match, MacKenzie Walkers are refreshingly understated; they speak volumes without saying a word.

If you’ve ever seen the spartan clubhouse at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club, you know exactly what I mean.

And, whereas other manufacturers adorn their golf bags with on all sorts of gizmos and gadgets, MacKenzie Walkers are delightfully low-tech.

The Original MacKenzie Walker (they make a smaller, Sunday bag, too) has just two pockets but they easily hold balls, tees, accessories, and wind/rain gear.

If you really think about it, what more do you need in most cases?

“Whether I am playing well or struggling, there is something special, almost magical about [the bag]. It brings a pleasure that I would have never imagined. Thank you.” – Steve (Tennessee)

“One of the most beautifully made products I ever bought. This is just impressive, even better than what I was expecting.” – Blaise (France)

The other big reason serious golfers are fanatical about MacKenzie Walkers is because their craftsmanship is unmatched.

First of all, you don’t just, “call up and order one.”

The process begins with a personal consultation with the president of the company, Todd Rohrer, who happily works with you to create a one-of-a-kind bag according to the colors, styles, and personalization you want (which, by the way, is included in the price).

Your bag is then lovingly hand cut and hand sewn (in Portland, Ore.) using the finest leather and components available.

A mass-production operation this is not.

In fact, the bags have been made the same way, one-at-a-time, since the company began 25 years ago. Todd told me fewer than a dozen are made in a week.

Quite simply, you will not find a better-made golf bag anywhere in the world…which is probably the reason Todd is able to offer a lifetime guarantee.

Here is his very simple, straightforward policy:

“We will repair your MacKenzie Walker Golf Bag for as long as you own it, at no cost to you, as long as you believe it should be our responsibility. If you believe any needed repairs should be your responsibility, we will charge you only what the repair costs us.”

I don’t need to tell you that few companies will stand behind their products in this way.

“You should teach classes on good customer service. People who don’t even play golf would buy something from you if they knew how much fun it is doing business with you.” – Gail (Arizona)

“Fantastic! Beyond mortal words. Thank you for allowing me to carry your bag.” – Doug (New York)

Ok, here’s the best part of today’s tip: the special offer we have worked out with Todd.

The price of MacKenzie Walker bags are going up to $795 (for the Original) and $725 (for the Sunday bag) later this month.

However, if you request a free consultation through this special offer, Todd will honor his 2009 prices for any orders placed between now and June 30th.

He’ll also include one of his popular valuables pouches (at right), which will perfectly match your custom bag. These are also leather, hand crafted, and they normally sell for $50.

The bottom line is, you’ll see a savings of at least $100, depending on which bag you buy.

By the way, those of you familiar with fine leather goods know that Todd’s prices are quite reasonable. In fact, Todd says, “I’ve been told our products are under priced.”

So, if you have any interest in a MacKenzie Walker, I’d suggest not waiting until he hears this too many more times.

To get the ball rolling (and to ensure you receive your reader discount and free valuables pouch) simply send me an email (editor [at] golfvacationinsider.com) with your name, phone number and how you’d like to be contacted.

I’ll then have Todd contact you for a personal consultation about creating the perfect bag for you.

Remember, you must send me an email to lock in the 2009 prices and qualify for the free valuables pouch. There is no cost for the consultation and no obligation (or pressure, for that matter) to buy a MacKenzie Walker, but if the customer testimonials on this page are any indication, you’ll be delighted if you decide to do so.

“I am 100% thrilled, happy, and awed by this wonderful piece of golfing brilliance. Hopefully more people will discover what I thankfully already have.” – Dean (Texas)

“My wife loves it – she says you should be making handbags” – Chris (North Dakota)

This has to be, in my 45 years as a golfer, the biggest scam I have ever seen.
Nothing else really has to be said. Was there a miss print or did someone actually
thank the manufacturer for allowing them to pay 700 for this piece of crap?
Excuse me, this leather piece of crap.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion as to the necessity of a MacKenzie Walker golf bag, but you, nor anyone else, can question their quality. Each is one-of-its-kind (based on the buyer’s personalization), hand made, hand sewn from the best leather and components in the world. And as stated above, it’s guaranteed for life! How many other products do you own with a warranty like that?

They look like real nice bags but I can’t see spending $795 on a golf bag unless you have money that you don’t know what to do with. If you are in that position please send me some.

Looking at these $800 golf bags was a real eye-opener for me. I’ve been thinking about a new bag, so your article came at just the right time. I had no idea one could spend this much on a golf bag. Thanks.
So, I’m buying another Sun Mountain bag and sending the rest of the money to the Red Cross for Haiti relief. Having a fancy golf bag just doesn’t seem worth it.

Looks great and I would love to have one but at that number I could never justify it. For 800 bucks there are other things more appropriate.

Funny, Don, I had a similar reaction when I first saw these bags, but then I thought about it: How many times in your life do you have the opportunity to have something so beautiful custom made for you? I guess you could get a tailor made suit, but this is WAY more fun and meaningful (and probably a lot less expensive). I could see people passing it down to their children.
