I'll wear my golf shoes, thank you very much.

Now that we’ve shown you “The Good” and “The Bad” golf vacation products from last week’s PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando, Fla., it’s time to wrap things up with “The Ugly.”

Golf SlipSavers are essentially non-metal cleats attached to rubberized bases, that, when pulled over a pair of regular shoes, give you golf-shoe-like traction. Think mountaineering crampons but for the fairways-and-greens set. I’m not kidding.

The only people I could think of that might be justified in owning these hideous things are business travelers with big feet; people who need to be prepared if the boss or a client wants to play an impromptu round golf, but who can’t waste the suitcase space on an otherwise unneeded extra pair of large shoes. Then again, my boss took one look at them and said, “You’d have to be a total dork to wear those.”

That reminded me of the time I wore what I thought was a pretty snappy-looking seersucker suit to a friend’s wedding. A stranger came up to me and said, “Man, you must have a lot of confidence to wear something like that.” Somehow, I think his comment and my boss’ meant the same thing.
