Golf vacations at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort may soon include casino table games like blackjack and poker.
Gambling on golf vacations: Nemacolin Woodlands Resort, near Pittsburgh, plans to add a casino to its already large and varied menu of off-course activities.
Nemacolin Woodlands Resort, which Golf Odyssey recognized as one of the “Best Golf Resorts for Non-Golf Activities” in its 2008-2009 “Platinum Places” awards, plans to add a casino (complete with table games) to its already robust lineup of off-course activities.
Following Pennsylvania’s recent rule change allowing table games at certain casinos, the resort, located about 75 miles southeast of Pittsburgh, applied for the state’s remaining resort gaming license, which effectively costs $7.5 million.
Of course, applying for the license and obtaining it are two very different things, and there is competition from other parties, but the Nemacolin Woodlands Resort has already entered into an agreement with Isle of Capri Casinos to manage the new casino if its bid is successful.
According to plans released by Nemacolin Woodlands Resort, the casino would be housed in the building currently occupied by The WildSide, the resort’s indoor family entertainment complex featuring bowling, arcade games, pool tables and a climbing wall. These activities would all be moved to a new space.
The resort’s other non-golf activities, which are on site or nearby, include a spa, tennis, fly fishing, shooting, wildlife tours, off-road driving, disc golf, mountain biking, a zip line, and outdoor climbing walls.
As far as golf goes, Nemacolin Woodland Resort has two golf courses, The Links (the property’s original layout), and the Pete Dye-designed Mystic Rock. We recommend the latter.
