North Berwick's West Links is one of Golf Odyssey's recommendations for East Lothian, Scotland golf vacations.
As any reader of this blog knows, we think there’s a huge difference between golf vacation information and golf vacation advice.
Information is a commodity — it’s everywhere and often comes from questionable sources.
Trustworthy advice, on the other hand, is extremely rare and valuable. With repsect to golf vacations, it’s a time saver, a money saver, and an experience enhancer.
Here’s a real-world example of what I’m talking about. It’s in the form of a letter the guys over at Golf Odyssey recevied from reader Hans Berntson.
Hello,
I followed your advice from the July 2009 issue of Golf Odyssey and went to East Lothian. There were four of us and what a great trip!
We stayed at The Glebe House [Golf Odyssey recommendation], had a couple of dinners at an Italian restaurant (Osteria, pretty good) and played some marvellous golf courses. North Berwick and Muirfield [Golf Odyssey recommendations] are simply fantastic.
We also played Gullane #1 [Golf Odyssey recommendation], which I liked (four birdies may have something to do with that, but still very good).
Initially we had chosen to opt out of having lunch at Muirfield but after having played there we realised what a mistake that would have been.
What a treat. It was so good we spent the entire afternoon running up a substantial tab in the adjoining room overlooking the 18th [Golf Odyssey recommendation].
No more golftrips this year, but for next summer I have my eyes set for Bandon and the opening of Old Macdonald. I think the others will come too.
