Local newspapers are often a great source for golf deals and discount golf vacations.
We receive phone calls and emails almost daily asking about discount golf vacations and where to find the best golf deals. Well, one of the best sources of such information can be found in a familiar but largely forgotten place: the newspaper.
That’s right. The Web may be killing the circulation of newspapers all over the world, but for finding deals that make discount golf vacations possible, and coupons that only require tactful tearing as opposed to an Internet connection and a printer, newspapers more than hold their own.
Whether you stay at a hotel that provides an array of newspapers or you take a trip down to a newsstand, take our advice and think local. While the national and large metro papers are great for keeping up with world events, there’s nothing better than a local newspaper for quickly getting a sense of what’s going on in the community…and finding current deals on everything from golf to lodging to dining that can quickly transform regular golf vacations into discount golf vacations.
Case in point: We recently visited tony Park City, Utah, where many of the restaurants on Main Street have entrées starting at $30. However, the local newspaper, the Park Record, was filled with coupons offering significant savings on meals at some of the town’s finest restaurants.
The deals typically ranged from $25 off two meals, to two-for-one specials on entrées. This means that a couple visiting town for a few days and dining on historic Main Street could easily save well over $100 on dining alone. That’s a nice incentive to pick up the local newspaper each day, so be sure to do it while they’re still around.
