Two days ago, the Boston Globe published an article containing several golf vacation packages that I thought you might be interested in.

Here are the ones I found most compelling because of where they are, the courses you can play, and the prices at which you can play them:

Pinehurst Golf Packages
Where: Pinehurst Golf Resort, Pinehurst, North Carolina
When: September 9 to November 7, 2009
Why: In recognition of the men’s and women’s U.S. Opens being played over consecutive weeks at Pinehurst in 2014, the resort created its “Back 2 Back” package, which includes two nights of accommodations, breakfast and dinner daily, and three rounds of golf, two of which are on the U.S. Open-hosting No. 2 course (which normally costs $319-$410 per round for those not on golf packages). Prices for this golf package range from $1,265-$1,493 per person and midweek bookings receive a $300 resort credit (per room), which can be used for meals, drinks, merchandise, or additional rounds of golf.

Hawaii Golf Packages
Where: Hilton Waikoloa Village, Big Island of Hawaii (pictured above)
When: No expiration date yet
Why: While the experts at Golf Odyssey say the best golf and lodging is found along other areas of the Big Island’s Kona-Kohala coastline (see the January 2009 issue), Waikoloa’s Beach and Kings’ courses, by Robert Trent Jones Jr., and Tom Weiskopf/Jay Morris, respectively, are still Hawaiian beauties. And they’re even more attractive at these prices: $99 between noon and 2:30 pm, or $69 after 2:30 pm, and this includes a cart and a set of rental clubs, normally $50, eliminating the hassle of having to travel with yours.

Scottsdale Golf Packages
Where: Intercontinental Montelucia Resort & Spa, Scottsdale, Arizona
When: Through December 31, 2009
Why: Anyone can create discount golf packages in the desert in August, but the “Ultimate Golf & Spa Getaway” is good through the fall and early winter. Starting at $310 per night (including taxes and service charges), two people will get breakfast and either a 60-minute spa treatment or a round of golf each day on Troon North, Grayhawk, Talking Stick, SunRidge Canyon, Eagle Mountain, TPC Scottsdale, or We-Ko-Pa. The package also includes a guided hike up nearby Camelback Mountain. And, the fourth night is free when you book three.

Myrtle Beach Golf Packages
Where: The Glens Golf Group, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
When: September 10, 2009 to January 20, 2010
Why: If you’re in the mood for a golf-a-thon, this buy-three, get-three-free golf package isn’t bad. If you book three or more morning tee times at Glens’ courses (we’d recommend Heather Glen and Glen Dornoch over Possom Trot and Shaftesbury Glen), they’ll throw in free replay rounds at the same course after 1:30 pm. Prices for these golf packages, which include three nights lodging in a two-bedroom, two-bathroom condo, cart fees, and practice balls, range from about $300-$500 per person depending on the season.

One website I’ve used in the past for a golf trip to Hawaii was Par Hawaii. Good tee time discounts to be had there, including those off the Gold Coast of the Big Island. Happy golfing!

I’m sure Michelle meant to disclose that she works for the website she mentioned.
