The pros playing in this week’s AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am aren’t the only ones whose images are beamed all over the world when playing on the epic Pebble Beach Golf Course. Yours is, too, when you’re on a Pebble Beach golf vacation.

That’s because Pebble Beach Golf Course maintains a series of live Web cams that broadcast what’s taking place at some very popular spots around the course, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

If you check out these cams during the tournament, you may not see much given the crowds. But, then, that’s really not the best time or way to use them.

To me, their primary and best function is to fulfill the time-honored tradition of rubbing it in with one’s pals back home while you’re enjoying the Pebble Beach golf course. This is just a very cool, high-tech way of doing it.

Just let them know what your starting time is and they can watch you teeing off on No. 1, battling the wind and crashing surf on 17, finishing with birdie (hopefully) on 18 or, if you’re really cruel, grinning with a Scotch an a cigar outside the posh Lodge. And don’t worry too much if you hit any bad shots. There’s a 10-second delay before the images refresh, providing ample time to modify the results.
