Is it me, or does it feel like US Open week came out of nowhere this year?

Here in New Jersey, the golf season is just getting started (mainly because it false started a few times) and I haven’t had the chance to mentally gear up for watching, “the toughest test in championship golf,” which this year has the added gravity of being played on one of the greatest golf courses in the world: Pebble Beach Golf Links.

If you’re in the same boat and want to quickly get yourself “US Open ready,” here are two great websites with photos and videos that perfectly position the significance of this year’s tournament:

If you’re interested in the golf course itself (and the changes that have been made in case your considering a Pebble Beach golf vacation), visit this page of the USOpen.com site, which has excellent flyover (aerial) and walkthrough (ground-level) videos accompanied by commentary.

If you think seeing some of the greatest moments in US Open history at Pebble Beach will get you going, you should check out this page on the USGA’s website, which has a video album of “great moments,” include those from Nicklaus, Watson, and, of course, Woods.

I took about 10 minutes during lunchtime to visit both sites and I can honestly say I’m now super excited for Thursday’s opening round.

Even better, I might even be able to watch the broadcast with friends and sound like I know what I’m talking about.

So, what are you hoping to see at the US Open this year? Do you have any Pebble Beach predictions or comments on the course? Please share your thoughts below.

The US Open will break down in the following manner- a preview of the Ryder Cup with the Euros ( Westwood,Poulter, Harrington, McIlroy etc.) vs. the Yanks ( Phil, Tiger?, Furyk, Cink, Stricker) as one combination and the Young Guns the under 30 crowd vs. the Old Guard( the over 30 and 40 crowd) as another combo. Tom Watson and any other player over 50 gets their own emeritus status. That being said now look for a journeyman player to have the four best rounds of his life ! Just add Arnie and Jack ( in their primes) to the mix for must watch HDTV !

    Guys-

As a fellow NJ golfer, nothing can get you ready for the 3rd -10th and then the 17th and 18th at Pebble. I’ve been lucky to play there five times(the last three with my son) and each time is still a singular experience.

My wife drove the cart the first time my son and I played there. What could be a better family experience??

For those who cite the cost, after it’s over, you’ve forgotten about the cost!!
