There were three main reactions to last week’s post about Bandon Dunes Golf Resort’s Old Macdonald course opening for 10-hole preview play.
One was frustration, because I left out the part about the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort being located in Oregon (sorry, I forget that not everyone knows this).
One was gratitude, for researching tee times, green/caddie fees, and which 10 holes (and their order) will make up the preview rounds (all largely left out of mainstream reportage).
But by far, the most replies I received concerned the simple request for more photos of what is arguably the most highly anticipated golf course in the United States.
You’re in luck.
In addition to last week’s photo, we have two more awesome shots of Old Macdonald by Wood Sabold, Bandon Dunes Golf Resort’s official photographer. Enjoy:

I’m willing to bet you’ve never seen Old Macdonald shots like these before, certainly not with the inspiring beauty that Sabold is able to capture.
If moving pictures are your thing, good ol’ YouTube has you covered with three videos of Old Macdonald (and Bandon Dunes Golf Resort owner Mike Keiser and course architects Tom Doak and Jim Urbina playing a few holes) apparently shot by a local TV station.
Part 1 (8:37 min.) shows the most of Old Macdonald; Part 2 (9:55) shows a par-three hole (likely number five) and interviews with Keiser, John Grothe (director of golf) and Doak; and Part 3 (3:22) is the continuation of the Doak interview.
I always like hearing the thought process that went into a golf course in the golf course architect’s own words — it’s often quite different than what is written in the mainstream press.
If you’re interested in hearing what the architects of Bandon Dunes Golf Resort’s other three courses have to say about their work, you’ll want to read our guidebook, Planning the Ultimate Bandon Dunes Golf Vacation, which contains first-person accounts from Doak (Pacific Dunes), David McLay Kidd (Bandon Dunes) and Bill Coore (Bandon Trails, co-designed with Ben Crenshaw). There is some eye-opening stuff here to say the least, and it’s just a fraction of the priceless tips and insider advice you’ll want to know if you’re considering a Bandon Dunes golf vacation.

Thanks for the nice photos of Bandon Dunes… One quick note: Please inform the ‘interviewer/question asker”…that when you ask a question…PUT THE MIKE AT YOUR MOUTH…..not the Answerers….you can’t hear the questions that the subject is answering. Obviously he’s just a ‘mike holder’…not a journalist. thanks tom
Wish we could, but as we said, the videos are not ours. Appears to be a local TV station.
I’m anxious to see it up close in July 2009, but can’t get on Old MacDonald without staying at the resort. Any suggestions?
