I am going to be in NY the first week in August. I am looking forward to the chance to play Bethpage Black. I will be playing during the week as early as I can.
I am going to be a single and will probably get a caddie there onsite. I was wondering what time should I arrive to get in line? I probably will be taking a cab to get there since my family will be taking the rental car. Is there a better way? And once I get there since I won't have a car to hold a spot what are my options? What method is best to get a caddie do they assign one to you or do you pick one out of their caddie crew?
Thanks for any information....

Is it still crazy hard to get on the course?

What's the chance of a single just showing up mid-week this time of year and being able to get out on the course (black)?

Thank you!

Thanks for the great info. I have a question for you all..... I am planning on playing black next weekend, and since it is later in the year do you advise showing up around 4:30am on saturday if we are planning on playing sunday? Also, does it matter how many ppl are in our group? We will be going up there with 3 people, but I read somewhere that you have to wait till you get a fourth (assuming we would have to snag a single thats in the car line) until you can get your tee time. Is that true?
Thanks for the help!

I played the black last year on October 15 and they had just aerated and top dressed the greens. I plan on playing next week hoping they adhere to the same schedule. Does anyone know if they plan on aerating and/or top dressing the greens/fairways/tees next week?

Secured a tee for next Thursday at 12:33pm...can't wait. I must have called over a dozen times starting around 6:57pm. I finally got through, I suggest rehearsing your call prior to the real thing. I now have memorized my ID number and my SS #.

Where else can you play a venue where professionals play...think about it. Who plays hockey at MSG or football at the Meadowlands. For us NY residents we are truly lucky to have such a pristine course in our backyard.

Played the black today. Tee time: 12:42. Took us 5 1/2 hours. Shot 88 and am proud to say I did so using the same ball for the entire round. I used my 3 wheel speedcart. I know many have mentioned how difficult the course is to walk. The best way to describe walking the black is BRUTAL!!! All of us in my group were 49 to 52. We all labored to finish the round. That being said, I am thrilled that we decided to play. It is an amazing course.

In my opinion, the caddie fee 100 per bag (including tip) is without question reasonable. This is a very difficult course to carry a bag (or two).

When we went in to pay, I noticed they have monitors that display the available times. We were in there at 10 AM and I could see 2 available times for a single to play (11:30 ish and 2 ish). So a single should certainly get out (mid week anyway). I am not sure about the weekends.

I didnt notice any campers in the parking lot. But, the lot is significant in size. I doubt it would be a problem.

I drank 120+ ounces of G2 gatorade. It wasnt enough!!! Bring as my water as you can carry. The guys in my group carrying their bags were limited on how much fluid they could carry. My 3 wheel cart allowed me to carry several bottles. That was a big advantage.

Also, there really was no restrictions on where I could wheel the cart. I typically could skirt the fringe around the green with the cart. I found it to be the best way to walk and play the course.
