Best Budget Lodging for an American Club Kohler Golf Vacation Gets Even Better

Given its recent upgrades, the Inn on Woodlake is an even more attractive option for an American Club Kohler golf vacation.

Taking an American Club Kohler golf vacation to play Whistling Straits golf course and its other fine layouts is not an inexpensive proposition. However, there are less expensive options besides staying at the classy American Club Hotel and the little-known private mansion and sporting club called Riverbend, which we recently told you about.

Two years ago, we shared with you fact that the Inn on Woodlake was, “The Best Budget Hotel Option on Your American Club Kohler Golf Vacation.” In light of its recently completed major renovation, we now view the Inn on Woodlake as an even more compelling, lower-priced lodging alternative, particularly for visitors more focused on golf than accommodations.

The Inn, which just fully reopened in July, formerly had all the charm of a Hampton Inn. Now, it is more reminiscent of a W Hotel, just a little less edgy. Rooms now feature dark woods, a black, red, and white color scheme, high-definition televisions, new bedding, and impressively refitted bathrooms with showcase fixtures. It will prove to be more than sufficient for most travelers taking an American Club Kohler golf vacation. Room rates range from $203-$378 per night and include a continental breakfast.

By contrast, the rooms in the American Club Hotel itself ($344-$1,273 per night) seem a bit tired, and guests who visit in the near term may be disappointed. The historic hotel will, in fact, soon undergo its own renovation. For anyone dead-set on staying there prior to the improvements, and especially for couples, we highly recommend the hotel’s adjacent Carriage House. In addition to its convenient location above the Kohler Waters Spa, we prefer the rooms at the Carriage House, the most ambitious being the Immersion Suites, which feature spa-like bathrooms integrated into the room itself.

Stayed at the Inn on Wood Lake about 5 weeks ago. Great beds, quite rooms, good deal.
