Georgia Golf Vacations

Getting on Augusta National Golf Club is a whole lot harder than playing it.

So, you want to know the secret to playing Augusta National Golf Club without any member connections?

Well, while we have cracked the code on how to play many of the top private golf courses in the world, Augusta National Golf Club remains the ultimate challenge.

Unless you know someone on the Augusta National Golf Club membership list, this is not an easy ticket. Heck, even the pros need to win a PGA Tour event to get an invitation!

Having said that, where there is a will, there is usually a way. Read more →

This might strike you as strange, but I watch very little golf on TV.

Playing golf? Love it. Watching other people play it? Not so much.

Other than the majors, the only time I’ll tune in is if the tournament is being played at a special place.

This week is one of those times.

Splashed across the screen will be images of one of the best golf experiences in America.

It’s no wonder this event boasts the best field in the PGA Tour’s “fall series.”

Even tour pros are blown away by this place. Read more →

2012 Masters Tickets

Changing a 47-year policy should put more 2012 Masters tickets in the hands of the people.

Wow, what an especially exciting Masters this year’s tournament was.

That kind of drama makes you want to be there in person.

Well, starting next year, it may be a lot easier to do just that because The Masters committee has decided to do something it hasn’t done in nearly 50 years.

Not sure if you already read about this or heard it on the TV broadcast, but I thought it was too important not to mention. Read more →

I don’t need to tell you that attending the Masters is a seminal experience in a golfer’s life.

Well, if you’ve ever considered a trip, or a return trip, to Augusta, this is shaping up to be a great year to do it.

In addition to all the storylines about Tiger and others, we’ve uncovered an unadvertised package that can only be described as, “the Masters trip of a lifetime.”

More accurately, it’s a Masters golf vacation of a lifetime. Read more →

Sea Island Resort goes on the auction block October 11.

Talk about unfortunate timing for hosting your first PGA Tour event.

Georgia’s Sea Island Resort is hosting the PGA Tour’s McGladrey Classic this weekend, then the resort immediately goes on the auction block Monday morning as part of Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings.

If you’ve ever been to Sea Island, you know what an extraordinary (and very expensive) resort it is.

So, what’s going to happen to it? Read more →

Free, unlimited golf at Sea Island Golf Club now through March 7.

Last week, we told you how you can score a free round of golf at the Links at Spanish Bay while on a Pebble Beach golf vacation (see our Jan. 15 post). Today, we’re going to tell you how to play free golf during your entire stay at the Lodge at Sea Island Golf Club, the much acclaimed resort off the coast of Georgia.

The very comfortable Lodge at Sea Island Golf Club is offering “Lodge Winter Golf Packages” starting at $375 per night ($450 for double occupancy) that include free, unlimited golf on its premier Seaside Course (a Colt/Alison design, Tom Fazio redesign) and Plantation Course (Walter Travis design, Rees Jones redesign). Read more →

The Partridge Inn may be your best bet on an Augusta, Georgia golf vacation.

The Partridge Inn may be your best bet on an Augusta, Georgia golf vacation.

If this year’s Masters tournament inspires you to plan an Augusta, Georgia golf vacation in the future, keep in mind that all of the area’s accommodations are not created equal.

Practically every discount hotel chain in America is represented on Washington Road, the surprisingly garish and tacky strip that runs right past the gates of Augusta National Golf Club, which is buffered from the honky-tonk with trees, shrubs and thick clumps of bamboo.

If saving money is your main concern, one of these McMotels might work for you. But if you want to stay in one of the most comfortable and hospitable places on your Augusta, Georgia golf vacation, book at room at The Partridge Inn, a 19th century hotel on a hill in Summerville, Augusta’s intriguing historic district. Read more →

Jones Creek has some narrow driving lanes, just like another nearby course you'd know.

Few of us will ever have the chance to play “at” Augusta, like those competing in The Masters this week, but anyone can play “in” Augusta while attending the tournament or taking a Georgia golf vacation.

There are a few good public courses just over the border in South Carolina, but if you want to play quality golf on authentic, Augusta, Ga., turf, Jones Creek Golf Club, located only a few miles from Augusta National, should be on the top of your list. Read more →
