Scottsdale Golf Vacations

Great golf is only one of the perks of a Scottsdale, Arizona golf vacation.

As good as the courses are in Scottsdale, man cannot live on golf alone. Thankfully, there are some great restaurants in which to dine on a Scottsdale Golf Vacation, and you don’t even have to leave the main thoroughfare, Scottsdale Road, to do it.

Driving north from Sky Harbor airport, you’ll pass two of our recommended dining spots. Read more →

Vistal's eighth green rests in a box canyon.

Believe it or not, you can play a decent golf course for less than $100 on an Arizona Golf Vacation and you don’t have to bake in the midday August sun to do it.

Vistal Golf Club is the 2001 reincarnation of Thunderbirds Golf Club, a 1950s-era course that had become known a mediocre public course on a fantastic piece of property. With the donated design services of the PGA Tour, along with consultation by tour players Tom Lehman and Billy Mayfair, it is now one of the best courses you can play on a Phoenix, Arizona golf vacation for less than $100. In fact, the highest green fee all year is only $79 for this Discount Golf Vacation destination. Read more →

Mary Elaine's: best of The Phoenician's nine.

If main courses are as important to you as golf courses on your Scottsdale Golf Vacation, consider staying at The Phoenician resort in Scottsdale.

The property is medium-sized (it has a little more than 650 guestrooms, suites and villas), but instead of the typical two or three restaurants, The Phoenician has nine — and that doesn’t include a few private dining options. Read more →

If you’re a fan of golf courses designed by Ben Crenshaw and Bill Coore (and who isn’t?), be sure to visit Talking Stick Golf Club on your Scottsdale Golf Vacation.

There, you can play not one, but two courses designed by the team responsible for such greats as the recently opened Saguaro Course at We-Ko-Pa
(also in Scottsdale), Bandon Trails (Oregon) and Kapalua Resort’s Plantation Course (Hawaii). Read more →

Consider CopperWynd if We-Ko-Pa is part of your plans.

We-Ko-Pa Golf Club got our attention when its fantastic first course, Cholla, opened in 2001. Now, with its new 18-hole, Bill Coore/Ben Crenshaw-designed Saguaro course scheduled to open tomorrow, it’s a must visit on a Scottsdale Golf Vacation.

In fact, you can now easily justify choosing a hotel to be closer to this one-two punch in Fort McDowell than in Scottsdale proper, about a half hour away. If you do, consider the CopperWynd Resort and Club in Fountain Hills. Read more →

Sticks and stone: Latilla's elegant dining room.

With no less than six on-site dining options, choosing where to eat at the highly acclaimed Boulders Resort & Golden Door Spa is almost as challenging as the courses you’ll play on your Scottsdale Golf Vacation.

We say “almost,” because the best choice, for dinner anyway, is the elegant but unpretentious Latilla in the main Lodge, the signature dinner restaurant at the resort.

This stunning space features an enchanting canopied ceiling made of latilla or “little sticks”, plus muted lighting, plenty of Native American art, and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the pool and illuminated granite rock formations, further enriching the ambiance. Read more →

The South Course is our top pick at the Boulders resort.

The South Course is our top pick at the Boulders resort.

The celebrated Boulders Resort & Golden Door Spa, located in my favorite-named city of Carefree, sports two outstanding golf courses, but if you can only play one on your Scottsdale Golf Vacation, make it the South Course.

Like the North Course, the South was designed by Jay Morrish, and it’s the marquee layout here, particularly for resort guests, because it features many forced carries, water on three holes and elevated tees that show off the desert splendor. The more straightforward North Course is favored by members for its generous fairways and gentler greens. Read more →

One of the ultra-comfy casitas at Royal Palms Resort and Spa.

Located on East Camelback Road in Scottsdale, the Royal Palms Resort and Spa seems more like an estate than a resort hotel.

The property was, in fact, the private estate of the famous travel guide Thomas Cook, and after a wonderful renovation, the Royal Palms retains an aura of exclusivity and has established itself as the most romantic place to stay on a Scottsdale Golf VacationRead more →
