TPC Golf Courses

Dallas golf vacations

Savvy golfers can often play the private, Cottonwood Valley course on their Dallas golf vacations (photo courtesy Four Seasons Resort Dallas at Las Colinas.)

If you follow any coverage of this week’s PGA Tour event in Dallas, Texas (The HP Byron Nelson Championship), you’re going to see and hear a lot about the host course: the TPC Las Colinas (renovated in 2007), part of the Four Seasons Resort Dallas at Las Colinas.

What you won’t hear much, if anything, about is the Cottonwood Valley Golf Course, the “exclusive members course,” located just across the street from the TPC course.

You won’t hear about this Jay Morrish design (which was part of the Nelson Tournament mix until 2008) because it’s private, but if you find yourself traveling to, or through, the “Big D,” and want to play it, here’s how to do it.

While the 17th of TPC Sawgrass' Players Stadium Course is the most recognizable, the 11th is a beauty, too.

While the 17th hole of TPC Sawgrass' Players Stadium Course is the most recognizable, its 11th hole is a beauty, too.

The PGA Tour is playing the “fifth major” at TPC Sawgrass this week.

Here’s why you should consider playing it this year.

Number one, if you’ve not yet played the Players Stadium Course there, or haven’t been back since its major renovations, you’re in for some very pleasant surprises.

And, to stir interest in TPC Sawgrass during the sluggish economy, the club’s marketing department has been very busy devising specials and bargain packages.

In February last year, for instance, we took advantage of one of the most amazing deals we have ever seen. Read more →

You can play TPC Las Colinas and stay at the Four Seasons Resort Dallas at Las Colinas as part of this discount golf vacation deal.

One side benefit of the recession has been the emergence of some of the best discount golf vacation deals I have ever seen at luxury golf vacation destinations.

I was just reading the February issue of Golf Odyssey and frankly, I could not believe the special deal they uncovered at the Four Seasons Resort and Club Dallas at Las Colinas.  Read more →

New Orleans golf vacations must include a round at TPC Louisiana, a Pete Dye design.

New Orleans golf vacations must include a round at TPC Louisiana, a Pete Dye design.

With so many other big draws — music, food, architecture…your industry’s trade show/convention —  I’ll concede that you’re probably not going to take a New Orleans golf vacation so much as you might play a round or two while you’re on vacation (or a business trip) in New Orleans.

So, the obvious question is, if you’re only going to play once or twice, which are the best New Orleans golf courses to play?

Well, included in your options are a golf course that currently hosts the PGA Tour’s annual stop in The Big Easy and a private layout that previously hosted it. Here’s the one that the experts at Golf Odyssey recommend. Read more →

The Sawgrass Marriott is now a nicer place to stay when playing TPC Sawgrass on a Florida golf vacation.

The Sawgrass Marriott is now a nicer place to stay when playing TPC Sawgrass on a Florida golf vacation.

Taking a Florida golf vacation to play at TPC Sawgrass is one of golf’s seminal experiences that is delightfully available to everyone.

But when it comes to playing at this annual PGA Tour stop, one question everyone seems to have is, “Should I stay at the Sawgrass Marriott when playing TPC Sawgrass?”

While you’re no longer required to stay at the Sawgrass Marriott to play at TPC Sawgrass, here’s why you might want to do it anyway.  Read more →

The 17th hole is often the highlight of rounds at TPC Sawgrass and Florida golf vacations.

Most weeks, the courses you see during the PGA Tour telecast are private. But not this week. Anyone can play the Players Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass, host site of the Players Championship, and we just love that.

Many of you must love it, too, because, for the last few years on the Monday after the Players Championship, and for weeks thereafter, we get flooded with questions about playing TPC Sawgrass on a Florida golf vacation.

This year, I thought I’d try to answer some of your questions in advance given that the editors of Golf Odyssey played TPC Sawgrass just 90 days ago.  Read more →

Q: Can you tell me an inexpensive way to play the Stadium course at TPC Sawgrass? Roger S., Cullman, Alabama

If you're flexible about when you take your Florida golf vacation, bargain rates are available TPC Sawgrass

A: World famous island green or not, $375 in high season (March 1st through June 8th) is a lot to spend to play the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass, so I’m not surprised you’re looking for a less expensive option during your Florida golf vacation.

The twilight rate in low season (from now to February 28th) is $129, but you’re not guaranteed to finish your round. And honestly, what’s a round at the TPC Sawgrass without playing the famous 17th hole?  Read more →
