Golf Vacation Gear

As you know, we don’t normally write about people or products that teach you how to play better golf. Our advice focuses on where to play better golf.

That said, I recently came across a special offer on a popular training course you’ve probably seen before.

It’s called How to Break 80, and it’s been featured in Golf Digest, Golf Magazine, Golf World., Golf Tips, Golf Illustrated, and PGATour.com. Read more →

I thought today’s tip might interest you on several levels: as a golf traveler, as a business traveler, or as someone who simply wants to learn a foreign language, but thought it was too difficult or time consuming.

You see, aside from immersion (in which you live among people who speak the language you want to learn) I think I’ve found the fastest and easiest way to learn a foreign language. Read more →

Would you rent one of these during your golf vacations?

Given the choice, would you rent a Mantys during your golf vacations?

I’m not here to debate walking vs. riding, but I never thought sharing a golf cart made a whole lot of sense, at least from a pace-of-play standpoint.

Yes, single-rider carts have existed for a long time, but golf courses typically keep only one or two around for players with physical limitations. Must be a cost thing.

A few years ago, the Segway was supposed to be the smart new solution for single golfer transport, but it never caught on.

Now there’s a new, stand-up, solo-rider vehicle that addresses some of the complaints the Segway received and the company behind it thinks you, and the golf courses you play, are going to get on board. Read more →

seaforth-logoToday, I’m going to tell you about a piece of golf gear that isn’t a household name, but it should be.

This product is used by about 90 percent of players on the PGA and LPGA tours, far more than any club, bag, ball, putter, glove, or shoe.

But here’s the real shocker: all of these players use it by choice; not one of them is paid to do so. Read more →

Pro golfers and other athletes are reporting that "performance mouthwear," a partnership between Bite Tech and Under Armour, has raised their games.

Pro golfers and other athletes are reporting that "performance mouthwear," a partnership between Bite Tech and Under Armour, has raised their games.

I was going to wait until I had a chance to test this out before telling you about it, but Hunter Mahan’s impressive PGA Tour win over the weekend seemed a little too coincidental to ignore.

You see, Mahan is one of a growing number of pro golfers and other athletes who are starting to wear custom, “performance mouthwear” during competition…and they’re swearing it’s helping them perform much better (Saturday and Sunday rounds of 65? I should say so.)

Let me say right off the bat, I tend to be pretty skeptical about performance gear (sorry, Adidas, that performance underwear just didn’t cut it).

However, the fact that Mahan’s win came the day before I was scheduled to pick up my very own, custom-made mouthpiece from my dentist seemed like a message from the golf gods.

According to Bite Tech (bitetech.com), which has partnered with popular sports apparel maker Under Armour to create, “Under Armour Performance Mouthwear,” here is how it works: Read more →

Golf Odyssey is the unique, impressive, and affordable gift choice.

Golf Odyssey is the unique, impressive, and affordable gift choice.

Right now, you’re probably thinking that today’s tip isn’t a tip at all, but a self-serving promotional message.

You know what? You’re right.

Well, you’re partly right.

Yes, part of my job is to raise awareness about our premium, newsletter, Golf Odyssey.

But to be perfectly honest, here’s why I would recommend it as a great holiday gift even if I didn’t work closely with its editors. Read more →

Post image for The Scientific Way to Determine the Best Golf Ball for You

Nearly a year ago, we told you about one of our favorite websites, GolfBallSelector.com, which will, in less than 15 minutes and for less than you’ll pay for a sleeve of premium golf balls, identify the best golf ball for your game.

You may recall how this works: the researchers at GolfBallSelector.com test and measure the performance characteristics of virtually every ball on the market, then compare this data with information you supply about your game via a 15-question “fitting session.”

The result is a scientific (i.e. objective) list of the five best golf balls for you, those that will likely improve your distance, accuracy, feel…or all three. Read more →

Are you up for the challenge?

Are you up for the challenge?

I just received a call from Susan Hill, the golf fitness guru mentioned in last week’s post about “the best way to warm up when you’re running late for a tee time.”

Apparently, a lot of you were intrigued by her book, 101 Stretches for Golf, because she called to thank me for all the interest (and even a few sales) she received from Golf Vacation Insider readers. Read more →
