Caribbean Golf Vacations

The Mid Ocean Club is the best course to play on Bermuda golf vacations.

I’m not sure if you’ll be watching the PGA Grand Slam of Golf today and tomorrow (early coverage on pga.com; 4-8 pm on TNT), but I thought I’d share some tips about the host island of Bermuda in case you’re curious about or considering a golf vacation there.

For one thing, Port Royal, the course where 2011′s major championship winners are competing is *not* the best one you can play in Bermuda.

For that, you need to head to…  Read more →

Mid Ocean Club

Bermuda golf vacations can include the private, C.B Macdonald-designed Mid Ocean Club...if you stay at the right hotel.

Want to play one of the world’s top-100 courses and cross it off your bucket list?

This one is located on a beautiful island in the Caribbean, it was designed by the father of American golf course architecture….and it’s private.

But that’s not going to stop you.

Armed with the following secret, you’re going to waltz right in.

And with the even juicier tidbit I just learned — the super secret, if you will — you’re going to do it ahead of everyone else. Read more →

It's easy to see why some think the Golf Links at Royal Isabela provides a Pebble Beach experience on Puerto Rico golf vacations.

Well, the cat is officially out of the bag.

Despite being completed in 2009 and sporting an amazing, beachfront and clifftop setting soaring 300 feet above the ocean, Puerto Rico’s Golf Links at Royal Isabela had been flying under the radar.

That is, until this month’s issue of Golf Digest included an article about it.

But the course’s dramatic site (and ambitous plans for more courses and hotels) isn’t the only reason you’re going to be hearing a lot about Royal Isabela.

Until its lodge opens this summer, you can play the $150-$200 course for free.

Yes, free. Read more →

The little-known private course you can play on Domican Republic Golf Vacations has a Casa de Campo connection (Teeth of the Dog pictured).

I received a bunch of nice emails and comments on my last tip about how you can play an excellent, private golf course in Puerto Rico.

So, today, I thought I’d follow up with another one that I think you’re really going to love.

That’s because it concerns one of the largest, most popular golf resorts in the entire Caribbean – one I’m sure you’ve considered or possibly even visited.

What you probably didn’t do, however, was play its fun, private course, because most people don’t know it even exists.

I assure you, it does, and here’s how you can play it.

For years, Casa de Campo resort has been synonymous with Dominican Republic Golf Vacations, and for good reason. Read more →

Bahia Beach Golf Course is the best new layout to play on Puerto Rico golf vacations.

Although the Dominican Republic has lately been capturing the lion’s share of Caribbean golf vacation headlines, Puerto Rico still has golf chops and still has the DR beat in one very important category near and dear to my heart: convenience.

If you’re an American traveling to Puerto Rico, you don’t need a passport, you don’t need to deal with Customs, English is widely spoken, the dollar is the currency, and non-stop jet service is available from most major hubs.

Of course, this convenience wouldn’t mean much without quality golf to go along with it, and Puerto Rico has that, too.

In fact, you can play the best new course on the island, even though it’s part of a private, master-planned resort.  Read more →

Port Royal Golf Course's 16th hole is one of the most memorable you'll play on Bermuda golf vacations.

I could be wrong, but my sense is that Bermuda often gets passed over in favor of Caribbean Golf Vacations, and this may be a mistake.

Here’s why, and four big things Bermuda has going for it as a golf destination.

Four Seasons Resort Nevis and its Robert Trent Jones, Jr.-designed golf course are back in play for Caribbean golf vacations.

All Caribbean islands offer great weather, but only a few can offer a true “escape.”

The problem, of course, is that the islands with the fewest visitors usually have the fewest quality golf holes, too.

Well, I’m happy to report that one of the most unspoiled islands of the Caribbean is about to get its top-ranked golf resort back. Read more →

Officially private, for now anyone can play the Corales Course on their Dominican Republic golf vacations.

Officially private, for now anyone can play Puntacana Resort & Club's Corales Course on their Dominican Republic golf vacations (Photo by Evan Schiller).

There’s a pretty simple reason why Dominican Republic Golf Vacations are quickly becoming the best golf getaways in the Caribbean: they keep opening fantastic courses there.

One of them is Tom Fazio’s long-awaited Corales Course at Puntacana Resort & Club, which officially opened over the weekend  (it unofficially opened six months ago).

If you believe what’s written in the mainstream media and on Puntacana Resort’s website, only members and a limited number of resort guests are able to play this private, oceanside beauty.

We know differently, and here’s how you can play it:  Read more →
