5 Reasons Why You Should Consider This Winter Golf Destination

Do you wait until it gets really cold to start planning a warm-weather getaway?

I'm guilty of this, and it invariably becomes a mad scramble to coordinate everyone's work schedules and to make travel arrangements. Ugh.

This year, I'm planning ahead, and I thought you might like to see one place that's on my radar screen...and the reasons why it might be right for your upcoming travels.

Have you been on a Dominican Republic golf vacation? Other warm-weather destinations on your radar screen? Tell us all about it in the comments!

i have about 16 avid golfer who are interested inclusive of hotel, car or suv or airfare for january

I have been there half the time in Oct.-Nov. and half in April-May. In all my trips about the only rain you see along the coast is an occasional burst late afternoon in Nov. Other things to do are an off-roading tour thru the jungle to the beach, Monster truck drive thru the mountains, helicoptering tour, and shopping or dining at Cap Cana. Also a very big fishing expedition area. If you need help with tee times or where to stay, contact Anders at Palmiera Travel in Punta Cana. He is an ex pro and has set up all of our trips. Also for those at Casa de Campo, the new highway to Punta Cana is finished, and is only 45 min.

Casa DE Campo is a great resort,HOWEVER you have to be very carefull. We rented a villa & were robbed while we slept. Never leave anything of value in golf cart when you are at breakfast or lunch or happy hour. In spite of what happened I would go back. Unfortunately my wife will not.

Played at Punta Espada a few years back and all I can say us wow...great design, challenging holes, with many of them on the water, just fantastic.

To Rob P,

Dye fore is even better than Teeth of the Dog....all 3 tracks there are nice. Great resort.

I also recommend the restaurant at the beach area for a great evening!!!

Teeth of the Dog is a great track, and La Cana is not bad either.
The teeth has about 6 great holes on the water, no slicing one way and no hooking in the other direction. Caddy is mandatory, and mine was excellent.
The DR is a pretty tough island w/ bad roads, crazy drivers, and lot's of folks hanging.

I have been sending golfers to the DR for the last 10 years and know it backwards .. the majority of the video shows the amazing (but very expensive) Corales and Punta Espada Golf Clubs near Punta Cana .. and of course one shot of the Teeth of the Dog and few Arial views of Altos de Chavon (PS the hole to identify at the top is Punta Espada at Cap Cana). There are many other great options too and certainly more economical ..I recommend you talk to someone that's been there before going and pre-book your golf. This is a holiday destination to plan to go TO play golf .. not just a holiday destination AND play golf ..there's a difference!! Check out these courses La Cana, Iberostate, Punta Blanca and the Cana Bay for example. Also watch out for confusing offers offering free golf .. trust me IT IS NEVER truly free .. Cart fees are always extra and range from $35-$75usd per person. Email me if ever anyone has any questions. JHall [at] MeritTravel [dot] com

Been to Dominican Republic 2 times and going again in February. Great place to stay for a really reasonable all-inclusive resort. Golf is OK but very expensive. $100 for a cheap course. $300-400 for a nice golf course. Too expensive if you ask me. They would get more play if it was more reasonable.

Funny to see this. I am heading to Casa de Campo for the first time the first week of December. Any tips about golf and other things to do ? Obviously I'll be playing the Teeth of the Dog.

Thanks for the feature about the Dominican Republic. It's not on many golfers' radar this side of the pond, but looks to be a very attractive and practical destination.

Jim.
